We are conducting a research study through Syracuse and SUNY Upstate Medical Universities to obtain normative information about the way the vocal folds move when people produce voice. The study involves one visit (~30 minutes) where a licensed otolaryngologist and speech-language pathologist will perform two endoscopic procedures (rigid endoscopy and flexible nasoendoscopy) where we will record images of your voice box while you speak, and the a short audio recording of you speaking. The first endoscopy procedure will involve a thin tube that is passed through your nose, and the second involves another thin tube that is placed in your mouth. We will have you say some vowels and sentences during these procedures, and each procedure takes less than 5 minutes. To compensate for your time and effort, we pay $25 upon completion of the study visit.
WHO: Healthy (non-smoking) participants ages 18-59, with no prior history of a voice disorder or a sensitive gag reflex
