National Family Caregivers Month brings attention to the challenges facing family caregivers. Each year more and more Americans are caring for a loved one with a chronic health condition, disability or frailties of old age.
Here are ways to recognize and celebrate the caregivers you know:
• Offer a few hours of respite care.
• Send a note, card or flowers to brighten the caregiver’s day.
• Offer to help with home repairs, yard work or grocery shopping.
• Prepare a meal for the caregiver .
On Tuesday, Nov. 18, from 3:30-4:30 p.m., the University Libraries’ Family Caregivers Committee is sponsoring a program for caregivers. This event will take place at Syracuse University Bird Library in the Peter Graham Scholarly Commons in room 114. Cynthia Stevenson, director of the Caregiver Support Services unit of the Onondaga County Office for Aging, will speak about the challenges facing caregivers and provide information about community resources.
