Activities Planned to Honor Veterans on Nov. 11

A Veterans Day ceremony will be held Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Hendricks Chapel.

A Veterans Day ceremony will be held Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Hendricks Chapel.

Several activities are planned on the Syracuse University campus to commemorate Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11, including a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. at Hendricks Chapel. This year’s keynote speaker is Major Gen. (ret.) John Batiste, U.S. Army. The University Singers will perform during the program as well as the 198th Army Band. The full list of activities is as follows:

5 a.m.—National Roll Call on the steps of Hendricks Chapel. SU will join universities and colleges throughout the U.S. to read the names of more than 6,800 service men and women who have died since 9/11/01. Approximate time: 6 hours.

6 a.m.—Warrior Run, Orange Grove on the Quad. Organized by SU College of Law’s V.I.S.I.O.N. program, the SU community is invited to join the ROTC units, local veterans’ organizations, and military installations to run a 2.2 mile Warrior Run. Contact Joel at jpdeland@syr.edu.

11 a.m.—Veterans Day Ceremony at Hendricks Chapel. Keynote speaker is Major General John Batiste, U.S. Army (Ret.).

Noon—Veterans Day Luncheon, Schine Student Center Panasci Lounge. Open to the SU campus community. Seating is limited. Registration required.

Noon-5 p.m.—Red Cross Blood Drive, behind Steele Hall in Q1 parking lot. In honor of veterans, the American Red Cross and the Syracuse University Veterans Resource Center are partnering for a blood drive. Visit http://redcrossblood.org and enter Sponsor Code SU VRC, or call 1-800-RED-CROSS to make an appointment to donate.
