Cuse vs. Cancer Run/Walk Planned for Sept. 21

The professional business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi/Xi Tau chapter is flexing its organizational muscles to help raise money to fight cancer.

For the third straight year, students are planning to hold a fundraising walk and run. Proceeds from the Cuse vs. Cancer 5K run/1 mile walk will go to the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation.

“We chose to donate to the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation because of its obvious link to Syracuse University” says Kerri Taylor ’16, one of the organizers for the event. “The foundation helps fund cancer research and advocacy in the Syracuse area. Cancer is something that affects every individual in one way or another (especially within our brotherhood), and the fact that this foundation was serving a cause towards cancer research was something that really hit home.”

The fundraiser got its start two years ago as the fall community service event for the organization. Last year, over $5,000 was raised.

“Student philanthropy is very important as it highlights the significance of giving back to the community,” says Taylor. “Students must recognize that in addition to school, work and socializing, there is a community in which they reside. It is so crucial that we understand and give back to the city that is providing us with so many opportunities.”

The event kicks off Sunday at 11 a.m. at Schine Student Center. Participants can register online at http://www.active.com/syracuse-ny/running/races/3rd-annual-cuse-vs-cancer-5k-race-and-1-mile-walk-2014?int or sign up the morning of the run/walk.
