The College of Visual and Performing Arts will open “The Way Out: MFA 2014” on Thursday, May 22, at Rogue Space Chelsea in New York City. The annual master of fine arts exhibition includes 21 artists working in a variety of media, including painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, film and site-specific installation.

What sets the artists in “The Way Out” apart is the reinterpretation of traditional media into a contemporary context. Painting and drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography and film—all familiar instruments in the foundation of art making—have been introduced in a fresh milieu of concept and craft. Oil on canvas partnered with documentary video; works on paper that combine printmaking, drawing and painting; and site-specific installations of ceramic sculpture and photography are fused with both familiar and previously unexplored concepts that range from notions of gender, family and place to abstract narratives and sensory interaction.
The exhibition will run May 22-24 at Rogue Space, located on the 9th floor at 508 West 26th St. Gallery hours are Thursday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., with an opening reception on Thursday, May 22, at 6 p.m.
