Geraldine de Berly
Geraldine de Berly, senior associate dean of University College, has been selected to receive the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) International Leadership Award. This award recognizes innovative leadership in facilitating international professional and continuing education. De Berly was selected after a nationwide search. She will receive the award at UPCEA’s 99th Annual Conference in Miami in March.
De Berly is an active member of UPCEA and has taken leadership roles for more than 15 years. She has served as international network chair and global associates chair, and has been a member of numerous committees within the organization.
De Berly, who also directs the English Language Institute at SU, has been responsible for its significant growth through teacher development programs, global outreach and collaboration. She is a frequent presenter at state, regional, national and international conferences. Last November, she led a delegation of 22 UPCEA, American International Recruiting Council and Association of International Education Administrators members to 11 universities in Bogotá and Medellín, Colombia.
“As an expert in the field of international education, Dr. de Berly has been recognized by her peers for exhibiting leadership, creativity and commitment in achieving international impact,” says University College Dean Bea González. “Her commitment to providing access and opportunity to international students is paralleled by her determination to enrich their experience in the United States. Her extraordinary contributions to the mission of continuing education and its many endeavors have had a significant and positive impact not only on Syracuse University but on the academic world as well.”
