Back-to-School Videos about Students, by Students

Two new videos produced by Syracuse University students help highlight the beginning of new school year. One deals with hopes and expectations among students, the other includes coverage of orientation activities.

From The NewsHouse, Jason Greene and Taylor Baucom produced a piece asking students about their new school year resolution. Baucom, a graduate student at Newhouse, says it was all shot and edited in one day. She served as the interviewer and director, while Greene videotaped and edited the piece.

A second video, covering the Home to the Dome event, was produced by students involved in the LivingSU social media team. Jill Ouikahilo from the Division of Student Affairs tells us her crew had “a lot of fun putting it together.” Senior College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) film student Hyon Choi, junior VPA film student Chris Murillo, and graduate Newhouse photography student Ousman Diallo produced the piece, spending two hours to shoot and eight hours to edit. The team tells us it was the first time they’ve ever captured this kind of event. They used time-lapse photography to boil an entire evening down to a finished two-minute piece.
