SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Research by Douglas Wolf, Gerald B. Cramer Professor of Aging Studies and professor of public administration in the Maxwell School, is mentioned in a New York Times article on parents, nonparents and net taxes incurred over one’s lifetime.

The Central New York Business Journal reported on Syracuse University’s announcement that JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon will deliver the 2010 Commencement address.

The Post-Standard featured Tom Sherman, professor in the Department of Transmedia in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, in an article about his receiving the Canadian Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts.

The new owners of the Live Work Home “green” house on the Near West Side were featured in a Post-Standard article. The home is one of three projects resulting from the School of Architecture’s “From the Ground Up: Innovative Green Homes” design competition.

SU, the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science, and the Mary Ann Shaw Center for Public and Community Service are mentioned in a CNY Link story on the donation of science equipment to Blodgett and Danforth schools as part of the SRC/LCS Engineering Ambassadors Program.

SyracuseCoE staffers Carissa Matthews and Aimee Clinkhammer are mentioned in a Post-Standard story on Earth Hour activities.

The Post-Standard reported briefly on College of Law students meeting with the seven judges of the New York State Court of Appeals while they were in Syracuse to hear cases.

Two student plays winning in the SU Department of Drama’s New Playwrights Festival of Student Plays were previewed briefly in the Post-Standard Stars magazine (second item) and Syracuse.com reviewed the department’s presentation of “Room Service.” The Post-Standard also reviewed “Almost, Maine” at the Syracuse Stage.

FACULTY QUOTES

Jeffrey Stonecash, professor of political science in the Maxwell School and College of Arts and Sciences, authored a New York Times op-ed on overspending by both political parties in New York State government.

Kevin Masters, professor of psychology in The College of Arts and Sciences, is quoted in a National Public Radio “All Things Considered” article about a French television quiz show experiment which simulated electrical shocks administered to contestants answering questions incorrectly.

Keith J. Bybee, associate professor in the College of Law, was interviewed by DOT Med News about lawsuits against health care reform.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in a News-Press (Fort Myers, Fla.) story on reality show participants from southwest Florida.

Grant Reeher, professor of political science in the Maxwell School and College of Arts and Sciences, is quoted in The Citizen (Auburn, N.Y.) story on political fallout of area votes on health care reform.

Bea González, dean of University College, is quoted in a Post-Standard story on “Shadow Day” with college students mentoring middle-school students in the Syracuse City School District.
