Shelly Lazarus, chairman emeritus of Ogilvy & Mather, will visit the Newhouse School on Wednesday, April 17, as a guest of the Eric Mower Advertising Forum. Lazarus joined Ogilvy & Mather in 1971. She was named CEO in 1996 and chairman in 1997, and became chairman emeritus in July 2012. She has worked with some of the world’s most respected brands, including American Express, Coca-Cola, Ford, IBM and Unilever, among others.
A frequent industry honoree, she has appeared in Fortune Magazine’s annual ranking of America’s 50 Most Powerful Women in Business multiple times. She was the first woman to receive Columbia Business School’s Distinguished Leader in Business Award, as well as the Advertising Educational Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
She is a member of the Direct Marketing Association’s Hall of Fame and a 2013 American Advertising Federation Hall of Fame inductee. She has also served as chairman of the American Association of Advertising Agencies.
