A Kalamazoo Gazette preview of the upcoming TEDxKalamazoo event in October notes William Ward, professor of practice in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, will make a presentation there.

Statistics from Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) are cited in an Austin American-Statesman story on the changing rate in Austin federal courts of immigrant prosecutions for illegal re-entry to the country.

YNN reported on the Friday Empty Bowls fundraiser held at The Warehouse. SU faculty and students assisted in creating ceramic bowls for the event.

An Innovation Trail report on water quality in the Southern Tier features earth sciences professors Laura Lautz and Gregory Hoke. The College of Arts and Sciences faculty members are sampling drinking water from wells there, ahead of the possible approval of hydraulic fracturing in New York. Called Project SWIFT, for shale-water interaction forensic tools, the effort will yield a baseline database of drinking water quality for the region.

The Newhouse Center for Digital Media Entrepreneurship and Sean Branagan, the center’s director, are mentioned in Innovation Trail and NY Convergence reports on student entrepreneurship.

A Post-Standard photo and Syracuse.com video featured the Syracuse Stage “singing sidewalk” demonstration during the Stage’s open house celebration. The new Syracuse Stage plaza, a Connective Corridor destination, was dedicated Saturday.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, authored a Fox News op-ed on the 50th anniversary of “The Beverly Hillbillies” and was quoted in a CNN story on the enduring mystery and fascination of Jimmy Hoffa. Thompson is also quoted in a Baltimore Sun story on the second season of “Homeland.”

A wind industry jobs forecast by Jason Dedrick, associate professor at the School of Information Studies (iSchool), is cited in a CIO magazine article on wind energy jobs in the United States, and the impact on the industry of the expiring tax credit.

Anthony Rotolo, assistant professor of practice in the iSchool, is quoted in a YNN story about a Twitter scam targeting Assemblyman Don Miller. Rotolo also commented for a CNY Central report on the impact of social media on election campaigning.

Mike Cahill, director of SU Career Services, is quoted in a Post-Standard story on area campus job fairs.
