Media coverage of the University’s announcement of surpassing its $1 billion Campaign for Syracuse University goal includes reports by YNN, CNY Central and the Post-Standard. The milestone was marked with a celebration Thursday on the Kenneth A. Shaw Quadrangle.

Syracuse University alumnus and one of SU basketball’s greatest free throw shooters Jim Lee spoke with CNY Central about how he is using his basketball skills to raise money for disabled veterans participating in the national Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) program, founded at the Whitman School and operated by the Institute for Veterans and Military Families. Fifty percent of the proceeds from Lee’s new book on free throw shooting, “Fifteen Feet for Free,” will go to the EBV in honor of his father, a WWII vet who lost both legs in the war. Also, a Resident (Stonington, Conn.) story about laptop computers donated to disabled veterans makes note of SU and University of Connecticut EBV programs and a Sacramento Bee story reported on the 2012-13 academic year launch of the PepsiCo Dream Machine recycling initiative in K-12 schools.

Phys.org highlighted a study co-authored by the Burton Blatt Institute’s Meera Adya, which finds people with disabilities remain largely sidelined in American politics. The size of the disability population means it is an important voting bloc and potential swing group.

A Friday Post-Standard report features the WCNY “Ivory Tower Half Hour” program celebrating its 10th anniversary. The locally generated political talk show is hosted by David Rubin, professor and dean emeritus at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, and includes several SU faculty members as regular panelists.

A Post-Standard “Consider This” item highlights the new Monday Mile routes along with the “Healthy Monday” campaign, developed by SU alumnus Sid Lerner.

In a Post-Standard report, Maxwell School Dean James Steinberg reflected on the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Libya, in which U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed. Additionally, Mehrzad Boroujerdi, director of the Middle Eastern Studies Program in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and The College of Arts and Sciences, commented for a 9WSYR report on the attack; and William Smullen, director of the National Security Studies program in the Maxwell School, is quoted in a YNN segment about embassy security.

Dennis Deninger, professor of practice in the Department of Sport Management at the Falk College and founding director of the Sports Communications graduate program at the Newhouse School, is quoted in an Associated Press article about the ESPN SportsCenter milestone of airing its 50,000th show.
