At National Press Club event, Chancellor Cantor helps launch national dialogue on the purposes of higher education

SU Chancellor and President Nancy Cantor shared her thoughts on priorities for American higher education as a panelist at a National Press Club event to launch Shaping Our Future, a national series of community-based dialogues about the purposes of higher education. U.S. Under Secretary of Education Martha Kanter opened the discussion, during which prominent leaders in the field urged colleges and universities nationwide to facilitate dialogue in their communities about the roles of colleges and universities in creating the society that Americans envision for themselves. More than 60 institutions already have committed to initiate such dialogues employing a framework developed by the National Issues Forums in collaboration with the American Commonwealth Partnership and the Kettering Foundation.

Syracuse University will announce this fall its plans for fostering such a discussion locally with partners from the Central New York community.
