SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

CNBC reported on Chancellor Cantor’s participation in the White House announcement that Syracuse University and nine other institutions across the nation are making a new commitment to promote greater clarity in student financial aid packages and college costs.

Campus Technology reported on IBM and the School of Information Studies (iSchool) Global Enterprise Technology program partnering to provide students with hands-on opportunities to learn about deployments of large-scale global enterprise information systems.

Broadway World reported on Breakdown Services collaborating with the Tepper Semester to offer scholarships to educate future casting directors of the new Syracuse University casting program.

NBC Chicago, MSNBC and the Sacramento Bee report on the St. Cornelius School in Chicago winning the $50,000 grand prize for green improvements from PepsiCo’s Dream Machine School Makeover. Through the program, PepsiCo donates to the national Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities program, founded in 2007 at the Whitman School and operated by the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF).

The June/July issue of CNY Business Exchange highlights the progress of phase one of Connective Corridor construction, as well as the 2012 Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship conference.

The CNY Business Journal reports on the IVMF offering a two-day intensive training workshop at the 2012 National Veterans Small Business Conference and Expo in Detroit later this month, for transitioning service members and veterans, on small business and entrepreneurship. The program is offered in coordination with the U.S. Small Business Administration, and the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs.

The Post-Standard reported on Seymour Dual Language Academy students forming a four-block human chain on Thursday from the school to the LaCasita Cultural Center to symbolize the connection Seymour students have made with the community. LaCasita is a project of SU and is facilitated by The College of Arts and Sciences.

Former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State and Maxwell School Dean James Steinberg spoke with Robert Seigel of NPR’s “All Things Considered” about deteriorating conditions in Syria and the potential of a civil war.

Kim Brown, alumni program coordinator in SU Career Services, is featured in a 9WSYR “Bridge Street” segment on decoding QR codes.

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, spoke with WHAM-TV (Rochester, N.Y.) about the tax issues related to the City of Syracuse and Destiny USA, and how they compare to a proposed project in Irondequoit, N.Y. He also spoke with POTUS radio on Sirius XM about the 400 highest incomes and taxes.

John Palmer, professor and former dean of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, is quoted in the Post-Standard in a story about U.S. Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle, Medicare and the Affordable Health Act. Palmer served two terms as a public trustee for the Medicare and Social Security programs.
