SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

U.S. News & World Report, Los Angeles Times and San Francisco Chronicle reported on Chancellor Cantor’s participation in the White House announcement that SU and nine other institutions across the nation are making a new commitment to promote greater clarity in student financial aid packages and college costs.

NBC Nightly News with Brian Williamshighlighted the 2012 Syracuse University Commencement address delivered by VPA alumnus Aaron Sorkin ’83. NBC’s “Today Show” also ran this highlight segment on Saturday morning.

The Genesis Health Project and Luvenia Cowart, professor of practice in the Department of Public Health, Food Studies and Nutrition at the Falk College, are mentioned in a Sunday Post-Standard editorial about the Community Health Foundation of Western and Central New York and overcoming regional health care disparities. The Genesis Health Project educates people through black churches and barbershops about preventable diseases and healthy lifestyles.

FACULTY QUOTES

Milton Mueller, professor in the School of Information Studies (iSchool), is quoted in a New York Times story on conspiracy theories about an Internet takeover by the International Telecommunication Union, a UN agency.

An International Bar Association article on United Nations inaction in the Syrian conflict quotes David M. Crane L’80, professor of practice in the College of Law.

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, appeared on Current TV‘s “Viewpoint” show with Eliot Spitzer discussing Johnston’s Reuters column on taxes and the nation’s 400 highest incomes. Also, Johnston appeared on Rochester’s WXXI-TV discussing the documentary, “The Heist: Who Stole the American Dream,” and authored another Reuters column on state and local subsidies for corporations using the proposed rebuilding of an Irondequoit mall as an example. That column was also published in the Sunday Post-Standard.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in a Christian Science Monitor story about the ending of “Car Talk” on NPR and in a Guelph Mercury article about cinematic distortions of historical fact.
