SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Syracuse University alumnus Aaron Sorkin ’83 is profiled in a Sunday Post-Standard Stars magazine cover feature on his new HBO series “The Newsroom.”

In the Sunday Post-Standard, excerpts of a conversation between School of Architecture Dean Mark Robbins and the newspaper’s editorial board were published. A longer format is also posted online here. The discussion included SU’s Warehouse renovations, the “From the Ground Up” competition, Chancellor Cantor’s vision for Scholarship in Action, and Connective Corridor developments.

The Sunday Post-Standard Stars magazine reviewed the artists’ exhibitions at Community Folk Art Center, “The Unexpected Journey: Works by Beverly McIver” and “How I See the World: Works by Spencer McClay.”

FACULTY QUOTES

An American Public Media “Marketplace Tech” report on the International Telecommunications Union re-examining the global communications treaty, relative to open Internet access, quotes Milton Mueller, professor in the School of Information Studies (iSchool).

Ellen deLara, associate professor of social work in the Falk College, was quoted in a Christian Science Monitor story about school bus bullying.

The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle quoted both Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, and William Ward, professor of practice in the Newhouse School, on how the video of the Greece, N.Y., school bus monitor went viral and drew national attention.

Additionally, Thompson was quoted in a Guardian (U.K.) story about British headmistress Helen Wright decrying celebrity superficiality; in a WTVN (Columbus, Ohio) radio segment on the recent Supreme Court ruling on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) versus Fox case; and in an Associated Press article on post-Oprah, high-impact television interviews.

Roy Gutterman, associate professor of communications law and journalism and director of the Tully Center for Free Speech at the Newhouse School, authored an op-ed in Jurist discussing the impact of the Supreme Court decision in FCC v. Fox.

For a Sunday Post-Standard story on Title IX legislative reform barring gender discrimination in federally-funded educational programs and activities, Renee Baumgartner, SU deputy director of athletics, commented on gender equity progress in sports over the 40 years since the law’s enactment.
