SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The London Times reported on Syracuse University’s “Gap Year Semester” pilot program at the London Center, which will provide credit coursework for gap-year studies for U.K. students.

ASEE First Bell and the Post-Standard reported on Project ENGAGE, the program in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science that encourages girls to explore their interests and skills in math, science and engineering.

Coverage of the launch of Operation Boots to Business: From Service to Startup, a program to help transitioning service members and veterans become entrepreneurs, includes the News & Messenger/InsideNoVa (Manassas, Va.), Jackson Free Press (Miss.) NJBiz, Hi-Desert Star (Yucca Valley, Calif.), Epoch Times and About.com. The pilot program was launched by the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, U.S. Small Business Administration and U.S Marine Corps on four USMC bases and goes nationwide in 2013.

WRVO featured the work by researchers in The College of Arts and Sciences to use nanotechnology to harness power of fireflies.

FACULTY QUOTES

Anthony Rotolo, assistant professor of practice in the School of Information Studies (iSchool), is quoted in Politico on the tone of President Obama’s online election campaign and communications.

Kevin Noble Maillard, associate professor in the College of Law, authored a post for the New York Times “Campaign Stops” blog on issues of race in political campaigns.

Roy Gutterman, associate professor of communications law and journalism and director of the Tully Center for Free Speech at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is featured in a Poynter article for his investigative work with the case of Paresh Jha, the former staff reporter for the New Canaan News who was recently fired for fabricating quotes and sources.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, spoke with NPR’s “On the Media” about “rolodex journalism” in an OTM reprise of a 2002 story about journalism sources.

Dana Radcliffe, adjunct faculty member at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, authored a Huffington Post column on lessons for corporate executives, taken from the criminal investigations into alleged corruption in Walmart’s Mexican operations.

William Ward, professor of practice in the Newhouse School, spoke with 9WSYR about digital and social media etiquette.

David Rubin, professor and dean emeritus at the Newhouse School, authored a Post-Standard commentary on the future of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra and live classical music in Syracuse.

Thomas Dennison, professor of practice in public administration in the Maxwell School, recently commented for a WSYR-AM report on layoffs at Auburn Community Hospital.
