SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Recent Syracuse University graduate and Commencement speaker Stephen Barton was profiled in several local and national media reports on the mass shooting in Aurora, Colo., including ABC World News, several Associated Press stories, (here and here); and New York City television and radio stations segments from WCBS, Fox 5 WNYW, and WABC-AM. Also, Connecticut TV and radio stations WVIT (Hartford-New Haven), WTNH, WFSB, and WTIC-AM reported; as well as regional and local reports from YNN, WIVB (Buffalo, N.Y.), 9WSYR and CNY Central. Other print media reports include the Connecticut Post (Bridgeport, Conn.), Hartford Courant, and several reports in the Post-Standard and on Syracuse.com.

The Albany Times Union reported on SU partnering and cooperation with the area’s KIPP Tech Valley Middle School to help lead disadvantaged children on a path to college.

The Central New York Business Journal reported on the Whitman School of Management’s week-long Student Entrepreneurial Experience held at the South Side Innovation Center. Bob Herz, SSIC director, is quoted. The program provides entrepreneurship training and mentoring to sophomore, junior and senior high school students in an intensive immersion format.

Syracuse.com reported on SU holding the first meeting of its new international regional council—the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey (MENAT) Regional Council.

FACULTY QUOTES

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, discussed Mitt Romney tax issues in appearances on Current TV‘s “The War Room” and on MSNBC’s “The Last Word,” “Politics Nation” and the “Ed Show.” Johnston also spoke with POTUS radio on Sirius XM on the topic.

A video posted on Syracuse.com features Steven Blusk, associate professor of physics in The College of Arts and Sciences, explaining the Higgs boson and its recent discovery.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, spoke to WBZ-AM (Boston) and WTVN-AM (Columbus, Ohio) radio stations about the marketing of the Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, and its association with the Aurora, Colo., tragedy.

Robert McClure, professor of political science and public affairs at the Maxwell School, is quoted in an Associated Press article on campaign fundraising in New York State.

Leonard Burman, the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs at the Maxwell School, is quoted in Bloomberg Businessweek article on the Washington debate about extending soon-to-expire Bush-era tax cuts for U.S. taxpayers in the top two percent.

A Huffington Post column by Menachem Z. Rosensaft, distinguished visiting lecturer at Syracuse University College of Law, discusses basic principles of Americanism.

Rick Burton, Falk Professor of Sport Management in the Falk College was quoted in the July 9 edition of GolfWeek on the PGA Tour’s recent announcement of the Web.com Tour.
