Small Business Opportunities Magazine reported on Operation Boots to Business: From Service to Startup, a program to help transitioning service members and veterans become entrepreneurs. The pilot program was launched by the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF), SBA and U.S. Marine Corps on four USMC bases and goes nationwide in 2013.

The Central New York Business Journal reported on the IVMF’s recent partnership with the US Business Leadership Network on initiatives related to entrepreneurship and employment among service-disabled veterans.

The Washington Post’s On Small Business reported on the SBA-funded, veteran entrepreneurship education program Operation Endure & Grow, founded in 2010 at the Whitman School and operated by the IVMF, which trains National Guard and Reserve members and their families to launch and operate businesses even while deployed. Program creator Mike Haynie, IVMF executive director/founder and Barnes Professor of Entrepreneurship at Whitman, and program graduates Laura and Kelly Broome, are quoted. The IVMF’s program for female active duty, veterans and military spouses, Veteran Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (V-WISE) is also mentioned.

The Rome Sentinel notes an upcoming concert in Vienna, N.Y., with pianist Rick Montalbano, part-time instructor in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA).

The Post-Standard reported on the Multicultural Block Party held at Skiddy Park Thursday and sponsored by the Near Westside Initiative (NWSI). Maarten Jacobs, NWSI director, is quoted.

The Demo Day competition at the Raymond von Dran IDEA Sandbox, an EDA University Center, was covered by the Post-Standard and Central New York Business Journal.

The Syracuse New Times noted participation by David Wanstreet, VPA assistant professor, and Robert Moss, former artistic director of Syracuse Stage, in the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse production of “Fingers and Toes.”
