SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Media reporting on Monday’s campus visit by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton included the Associated Press, YNN, 9WSYR, CNY Central, WRVO and the Post-Standard. Also, reports appeared in Fox (Houston) and WIVB (Buffalo, N.Y.) news segments, and WAER and the Syracuse New Times covered the event.

Bloomberg Businessweek reported on Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) funding awarded to a dozen business schools and organizations across six countries to implement innovative improvements in management education through its Management Education for Tomorrow (MET) Fund. The Institute for Veterans and Military Families and the Whitman School of Management are recipients and will use the funds to develop the Veteran Employment Through Modified Graduate Management Tracks, in collaboration with additional SU schools, colleges and programs.

American Banker magazine mentions Syracuse University’s work with JPMorgan Chase developing educational programs, in an article about the growth of technology in the banking industry.

The Central New York Business Journal reported on student business plans winning awards through the Panasci Business Plan Competition at the Whitman School. The competition is hosted annually by Whitman’s Falcone Center for Entrepreneurship and its Department of Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises.

A Post-Standard report on “Hidden in Plain Site: Urban Sculpture and the Work of the Syracuse Public Artist in Residence” notes the photographic survey of the city’s sculpture was researched, organized, designed, and installed by College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) graduate museum studies students. The exhibition is on display at the Syracuse Public Artist in Residence Space in the State Tower Building. A related Saturday panel discussion at The Warehouse included Anne Cofer, instructor in fiber and textile arts in the VPA Department of Art.

The Post-Standard reviewed the Syracuse Stage presentation of “The Brothers Size,” directed by Timothy Bond, producing artistic director of Syracuse Stage and the department of drama in VPA.

FACULTY QUOTES

David M. Crane L’80, professor of practice in the College of Law, is quoted in an Associated Press on upcoming verdicts against former Liberian leader Charles Taylor at the Special Court for Sierra Leone.

A New York Times article on the alternative minimum tax and American tax policy quotes Leonard Burman, the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs at the Maxwell School.

Eric Kingson, professor of social work in the Falk College, is quoted in an Associated Press story about strains on Medicare and Social Security finances as the American population ages.

David Yaffe, assistant professor of English in The College of Arts and Sciences, authored a Village Voice review of the Paul Simon and Wynton Marsalis concert live at the Rose Theater with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

Rick Burton, David B. Falk Professor of Sport Management in the Falk College, was quoted in The Daily April 22, on the strategy of investing in major sports sponsorships, relative to Nike’s interests in outfitting the host team during the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. Burton also co-authored a column in Sports Business Journal (subscription required) on anti-doping and marketing efforts as the London 2012 Olympics approach.

A Washington Post story on British royal in-law Pippa Middleton and paparazzi quotes Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
