The Syracuse University chapter of Active Minds is hosting Send Silence Packing, an award-winning national exhibit of 1,100 backpacks representing the number of college students lost to suicide each year. Send Silence Packing was developed by Active Minds, Inc., the leading voice for college student mental health in the United States. The national organization has collected and continues to collect backpacks and personal stories in memory of loved ones lost to suicide. By displaying backpacks with personal stories that put a “face” to the lives lost to suicide, Send Silence Packing carries the message that preventing suicide is not just about lowering
statistics, but about saving the lives of students, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and friends across the nation.
The exhibit will be displayed on the Kenneth A. Shaw Quad from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday, April 20(rain location, Hendricks Chapel, 1 p.m.-4 p.m.). Representatives from both the SU and national chapters of Active Minds, along with members of the SU
Counseling Center, will be present to answer questions about the display, provide information regarding Active Minds at SU, and to provide information about mental health resources on campus and in the community.
