SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Monday’s rally on the Syracuse University campus for Florida teen Trayvon Martin was covered by YNN, 9WSYR, CNY Central, the Post-Standard and WSYR-AM. The Post-Standard also published video and another story and photo gallery about the rally.

The April/May issue of Central New York Business Exchange is a double issue featuring the Spring 2012 Wise Magazine, celebrating a decade of women igniting the spirit of entrepreneurship. In the issue, Me’Shae Brooks-Rolling, director of special events and conferences at the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, writes on financial organizing tips for tax time and year-round.

A Southern Illinoisan story about a symposium on Antarctica and climate change, hosted by Southern Illinois University, notes Douglas Quin, S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications associate professor, as guest presenter. Quin served as mixer and principal sound designer for the Werner Herzog film, “Encounters at the End of the World.”

Syracuse.com and The Stand online South Side community newspaper reported on the Image Initiative’s conference, Sisters Empowering Sisters, held on campus Friday and Saturday.

SU Block Party and Mayfest performers were reported in Syracuse.com.

The Monday Post-Standard reported on the YWCA Girls Inc. career conference featuring Joanne Lenweaver, director of the Whitman School of Management WISE Women’s Business Center at the South Side Innovation Center, as a speaker. A photo of Stephanie Johnson, Forensic Science Institute staff member, working with one of the girls in a workshop on crime scene analysis, accompanies the story.

FACULTY QUOTES

Thomas Keck, the Michael O. Sawyer chair of Constitutional Law and Politics and chair of the Department of Political Science at the Maxwell School, authored an analysis of the individual mandate in the Affordable Care Act for a Guardian (U.K.) opinion panel about the U.S. Supreme Court hearing arguments on the national health care law.

William Ward, professor of practice in the Newhouse School, is quoted on parody versus deceptive practices for a Portland Press Herald story about the Twitter account mocking the Senate campaign of former Maine governor Angus King.
