Community Ambassador applications Due March 22

The Office of Off-Campus and Commuter Services within the Division of Student Affairs is seeking student applicants for the 2012-2013 Community Ambassador program. The application and instructions can be downloaded at offcampus.syr.edu. Students must submit their application by March 22.

In an effort to assist students with their transition to off-campus living in the Syracuse University neighborhood, the Office of Off-Campus and Commuter Services (OCCS) has created the Community Ambassador program. This program will match successful off-campus students with selected blocks in the University neighborhood. Selected students will serve as an ambassador and role model to the residents
of the street they are living on. Community Ambassadors (CA) will provide a point of contact for student residents on their assigned block, provide access to resources and build community in order to ease the transition to off-campus living. This program is designed to increase the overall achievement and satisfaction of students living in the University neighborhood, as well as provide a leadership
opportunity for returning off-campus students. It is a paid leadership position.

“Being a Community Ambassador has been an awesome experience,” says Hayley Schreppler, senior biology major. “Not only do I have the chance to build relationships with my neighbors, but I also get to work with some amazing people to make the off-campus community better.”

Blocks participating in the 2012-13 Community Ambassador program include:

Ackerman Avenue
Clarendon Street
Euclid Avenue
Lancaster Avenue
Livingston Avenue
Ostrom Avenue
Maryland Avenue
Redfield Place
Sumner Avenue
Park Point Syracuse

In addition to the Community Ambassador program, OCCS provides all students living off campus or commuting to campus from home with support, information and resource referrals throughout their off-campus housing experience. OCCS is available for in-person assistance at 754 Ostrom Ave., via phone at 315-443-5489, online at
offcampus.syr.edu, and email at offcampus@syr.edu.

For questions or more information, contact Kerry Heckman, program coordinator for OCCS, at kmheckma@syr.edu or 315-443-5489.
