Marketwatch highlighted announcement of a new partnership between Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and HootSuite, to help prepare students for future digital and social media jobs.

Public Art Projects, an online public art resource hosted in the United Kingdom, featured the 601 Tully community art space.

An Associated Press story features William Shemin, a SU graduate and World War I hero who will be awarded the Medal of Honor nearly four decades after his death. Some believe he may not have received the award earlier because he was Jewish.

An article in Michigan Business News about veterans opting to become entrepreneurs mentions the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV), founded at the Whitman School of Management and operated by the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, in partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration. EBV graduate Justin Bajema, a former Marine and veteran business owner, is quoted.

A YNN segment featured the Skaneateles search and rescue dog used as a model for one of the four ‘Dogs at Work’ U.S. postage stamps illustrated by College of Visual and Performing Arts Professor John Thompson.

WKTV (Utica) briefly previewed a Black History Month keynote on hip-hop to be presented by Don C. Sawyer III, director of the LSAMP program, at Hamilton College on Feb. 6.

CNY Central previewed the Falk College Iron Fork Competition to be held in Goldstein Auditorium Jan. 29.

YNN and the Post-Standard covered the keynote address given by Detroit Mayor Dave Bing ’66, H’06 at the 27th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration in the Carrier Dome on Saturday.

The Post-Standard Stars magazine reviewed the Warehouse Gallery exhibition of “Into the Garden: The Contemporary Ink Painting of Deng Guo Yuan,” which runs through Feb. 18.

The Books Notebook column noted that a posthumous poetry collection by the late Hayden Carruth, who taught creative writing at SU from 1979-91, is due in March. The column also briefly noted kickoff of the Spring 2012 Raymond Carver Reading Series with author Rivka Galchen Feb. 1.

Mehrzad Boroujerdi, director of the Middle Eastern Studies Program in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and The College of Arts and Sciences, is quoted in an Associated Press article on prospects for new Iranian nuclear talks.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in a Guardian (U.K.) article on the remaking of pop star Lana Del Ray, formerly Lizzy Grant and in a Philadelphia Inquirer story on the PBS Masterpiece Theater miniseries “Downton Abbey” attracting a younger viewership.

Grant Reeher, professor of political science in the Maxwell School, is quoted in a Financial Times report on the SOPA/PIPA protests.

An Annenberg Digital News piece on what to look for in Mitt Romney’s tax returns quotes David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the SU College of Law.

Leonard Burman, the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs at the Maxwell School, is quoted in a Los Angeles Times article on the release of Mitt Romney’s federal tax returns.

A Publishers Weekly report on the American Library Association 2012 Midwinter Meeting notes Syracuse iSchool Professor David Lankes led two days of conversations among librarians about the evolving roles of libraries.

YNN quotes William Smullen, director of the National Security Studies program in the Maxwell School, in a report about sanctions against the Syrian government proposed by Sen. Charles Schumer.

Radhakrishna “Suresh” Sureshkumar, professor and chair of biomedical and chemical engineering in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science, was interviewed for a CNY Central report on nanotechnology manufacturing in Central New York.
