Winter Break and Green Days schedule, resources

In continuation of Syracuse University’s Flexible Work and Sustainability Initiative, the University will be operating under its Green Days format for the Winter Break period Dec. 26, 2011, through Jan. 2, 2012 (returning to regular operation on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012). In addition to the regular University holidays of Dec. 26, 27, 28 and Jan. 2, the following days have been designated as paid “Green Days”: Dec. 29, 30.

The Green Days schedule promotes sustainability and energy conservation by reducing University-wide energy use and employee commuting during the break. In developing this sustainable initiative, the University continues toward its effective and efficient plan to ensure a healthy and sustainable lifestyle as part of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment—signed by Chancellor Cantor in 2007—and the University’s Climate Action Plan.

Units providing essential services that will remain operational throughout the Winter Break include Public Safety and Physical Plant and Maintenance. Some facilities will be operational at reduced hours. All buildings on campus will be on a reduced-occupancy schedule, and temperatures in most will be set at 60 degrees.
