A Mashable report on ways universities use social media in marketing highlights Syracuse University’s use of Facebook.

Syracuse.com announced winners in the Syracuse International Film Festival, which ran Thursday through Sunday.

The Post-Standard Stars magazine reviewed the Warehouse Gallery exhibition of “Colorfonia: New Forms in West Coast Street Art,” with its site-specific abstract murals from the California based street artists Apex, Chor Boogie and Jet Martinez. The exhibition runs through the end of October.

The Post-Standard reported that Roy Gutterman, associate professor of communications law and journalism and director of the Tully Center for Free Speech at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, will keynote the Onondaga County Bar Association’s annual dinner.

FACULTY QUOTES

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is interviewed in a CNN report (view clip) on recession reality TV, and is quoted in a Fox News report on the Islam-inspired comics superheroes of “The 99.” Thompson is also quoted in a Christian Science Monitor report on the anticipated launch of Pottermore.com, the Harry Potter-themed website from J.K. Rowling; in Philadelphia Inquirer and Crain’s New York articles on NBC prime-time viewership; and in an Orlando Sentinel story on Halloween decorations.

Research led by Brian Sheehan, associate professor of advertising at the Newhouse School, on digital music piracy among college students is mentioned in a Guardian (U.K.) article on ownership and the Internet.

Newsday (subscription required) reported on a Hauppauge presentation by Eric Kingson, professor in the Falk College’s School of Social Work, on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid benefits.

Milton Mueller, professor in the School of Information Studies (iSchool), posted a CircleID op-ed on Verisign’s domain name anti-abuse policy, recently proposed and withdrawn.

Anthony Rotolo, assistant professor of practice in the iSchool, is quoted in a report on college admissions and Facebook in the Internet newspaper The Daily Dot.

Ulf Oesterle, assistant professor in the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ Bandier Program, is quoted in an Express-Times (Harrisburg, Pa.) article on music licensing fees.
