Charles T. Driscoll, University Professor of Environmental Systems Engineering in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science, is quoted in Lake County News Chronicle and Earth Times on mercury contamination in the Great Lakes ecosystem, based on the “Great Lakes Mercury Connections” report Driscoll contributed to. CNY Central also reported.

A radio interview with College of Law Professor Janis McDonald, and Wharlest Jackson Jr. regarding the 1967 murder of Wharlest Jackson Sr. and the work of the Cold Case Justice Initiative at the College of Law, aired on “The Tony Brown Show” on KAYT 88.1 Alexandria, La., 92.5 FM Shreveport, La., 98.9 FM Monroe, La., and 92.7 Jackson, Miss.

Rehab Management magazine reported about the U.S. Department of Education recently awarding the Burton Blatt Institute a $6.2 million, five-year grant to continue its leadership of the Atlanta-based Southeast Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Center.

The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications is cited in a Nieman Journalism Lab post on the success of the Carnegie-Knight Initiative, of which the Newhouse School is a participant.

The Post-Standard reported on yesterday evening’s lecture by Michael E. Bird on “Health Disparities Among Native Americans.” The lecture was presented by the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics.

College of Visual and Performing Arts alumnus Rob Edwards ’85, artistic director of the Syracuse International Film Festival and the Academy Award-nominated writer of “The Princess and The Frog,” discussed this year’s festival on WSYR-AM’s “Jim Reith Show” Wednesday. A podcast is available here.

Owen Shapiro, director of the Syracuse International Film Festival and professor of film in VPA’s School of Art and Design’s Department of Transmedia, spoke with CNY Central about SYRFILMFEST kicking off today. SYRFILMFEST was also a “Best Bet” in the Post-Standard.

A Post-Standard feature looks at “Last Transfer: Identity and Liminality,” an exhibition by Bob Gates, photographer and professor emeritus of English in SU’s College of Arts and Sciences. The exhibition, part of Syracuse Symposium, is an exploration of identity within a unique part of the Syracuse community. 9WSYR’s “Bridge Street” program also featured an interview with Gates this morning.

The Post-Standard reported on the TV pilot “Upstate” proposed by Thomas Seeley, adjunct professor in the Newhouse School.

FACULTY QUOTES

Roy S. Gutterman, associate professor of communications law and journalism at the Newhouse School, authored a column for the National Law Journal (subscription required) on the impact of how the Court interprets Congress’ 1994 amendments to the Copyright Act, Section 514.

The Democrat & Chronicle in Rochester, N.Y. highlighted the social media event that featured William Ward, professor of practice in the Newhouse School.
