Post-Standard and Oneida Daily Dispatch stories noted Syracuse University plans to mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States, including a Service of Remembrance and Hope in Hendricks Chapel; the Anbar Family Lecture, to be presented in collaboration with SU at Temple Adath Yeshurun by Samuel Gorovitz, professor of philosophy in The College of Arts and Science; and other events.

Say Yes to Education, the Syracuse City School District and Syracuse University were featured in guest columnist Maureen Green’s Saturday Post-Standard column.

A Post-Standard video story captured the Syracuse University Marching Band performing outside the Carrier Dome, prior to the Orange football victory over Wake Forest.

FACULTY QUOTES

Dinesh Guari, assistant professor of marketing in the Whitman School of Management, commented for an NPR report about the trend of Halloween retail sales beginning before Labor Day.

Maxwell School Dean James Steinberg, former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, is quoted in a National Journal article on American decline in the decade following 9/11.

Len Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School, authored a Forbes article on President Obama and FDR’s public works programs and was quoted in a CNN Money story on tax revenues and the national debt.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in the New Orleans Times-Picayune about the timing of President Obama’s upcoming address as it relates to NFL football. Thompson is also quoted in a Yahoo News story on the Tyler Shields photo shoot themed “bruised-up Barbie” and featuring “Glee” star Heather Morris. Also, Thompson was interviewed for a Toledo Blade article about Americans contextualizing memories of 9/11.

Eric Kingson, professor in the School of Social Work in the Falk College, co-authored a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette op-ed, “Social Security falsely attached again, Rick Perry ought to know better than to call it a Ponzi scheme.” Also on Sept. 1, related to Social Security, Kingson did a radio interview with WFAW in Fort Atkinson, Wis.

Houston News quotes Jane Neuburger, director of the Tutoring & Study Center at Syracuse University, on colleges increasing developmental education initiatives. Neuburger is also president of the National Association for Developmental Education.

Syracuse Eagle conducted a Twitter interview with social media expert William J. Ward, a.k.a. ‘DR4WARD,’ who recently joined the faculty of the Newhouse School.

School of Architecture Dean Mark Robbins offered an opinion on redevelopment of the Syracuse Inner Harbor area for a Post-Standard story on the topic.

Michael Schwartz, associate law professor in the College of Law and director of the College’s Disability Rights Clinic, is quoted on the Americans with Disabilities Act in a Post-Standard article on accessibility to the disabled in public accommodations, focusing on a Key Bank in Parish, N.Y.

SU alumnus Rami Khouri ’70, G’98, director of the Issam Fares Institute of Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut and editor-at-large of the Beirut-based Daily Star newspaper, is quoted in Time magazine and CNN stories on the future of the Syrian regime of President al-Assad.
