Sept. 4 dance party to feature Syracuse’s No. 1 dance-club video DJ

Students who are looking for a fresh, new and fun night out over this year’s Labor Day weekend should attend “On the Floor at the Jersey Shore:” SU’s totally hot, yet incredibly cool, Sunday-night dance party at the beach. DVDJ Biggie, Syracuse’s No. 1 dance club video DJ of the LAVA at Turning Stone Casino, will pack the house with his crazy club/hip hop/Top 40 video remixes that are used worldwide. danceSponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, Orange After Dark, University Union and Student Association, “On the Floor” is scheduled to take place on Sunday, Sept. 4, from 11:30 p.m.-2 a.m., in the Goldstein Auditorium at the Schine Student Center. Tickets are $2 and are available for purchase at the Schine Box Office. Students can purchase up to four tickets each. Student IDs and tickets will be required for entry at the event. Bathing suit attire is not permitted.

DVDJ Biggie’s beats and video remixes are sure to get students to step, tear and sweat on the floor. During the dance party, “text-in” promotions led by DVDJ Biggie will result in five lucky students who will win a free night out to the LAVA at Turning Stone with VIP treatment. Transportation to and from the club will be provided. Each contest winner is also able to bring five friends to the club for a night to remember.

Prior to the dance party, University Union will be holding a screening for students from 8-10 p.m. on the Kenneth A. Shaw Quad. In the case of inclement weather, the rain location will be Gifford Auditorium.

Saturday, Sept. 3
10 a.m.-7 p.m.: New York State Fair trip
Discount tickets can be purchased at the Schine Box Office. Buses leave from College Place every 30 minutes.

5:30 p.m.: Night at the Zoo!
Join your classmates at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo . The evening will include a scavenger hunt, prizes, barbecue dinner, transportation to and from the zoo and an opportunity to explore this amazing resource. Contact Office of First-Year and Transfer Programs at 315-443-1012.

Sunday, Sept. 4
10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.: whitewater rafting
Join the Department of Recreation Services for whitewater rafting on the Black River. Beginner to advanced levels welcome. Transportation, training and equipment are included. Snacks and full barbecue dinner are also provided. Contact Recreation Services at 315-443-4386 for details, or visit http://outdoored.syr.edu.

Noon-3 p.m.: South Campus Welcome Block Party & BBQ
Orange After Dark and S.C.O.P.E. (South Campus Organization for Programming Excellence) invite you and your friends to come for free food and activities, including inflatables; caricature artists; D.I.Y. activities, including tie-dye t-shirts, photos, sand art and spin art; smoothies and a live DJ. All games and activities are free! Located at Goldstein Student Center Patio.

9-11:30 p.m.: Target shopping event
This shopping event provides a perfect opportunity to purchase food and essentials in a fun and entertaining environment. Shuttles will leave from Schine, Goldstein, Stadium Place and Mount Olympus.

Monday, Sept. 5
10 a.m.-4 p.m.: ultimate frisbee tournament

10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.: whitewater rafting

Noon-2 p.m.: Welcome Back LGBTA Picnic
The ninth annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Straight Allies Community Picnic welcomes everyone back with great food, music, fun and friends. Free admission. RSVP required. Call 315-443-3983 or email lgbt@syr.edu for RSVP, questions, or location information at patio, H.B. Crouse Hall.
