Avicii and B.o.B to co-headline 8th Annual Juice Jam

Swedish house-electronic artist Avicii and American rapper B.o.B are set to co-headline Syracuse University’s 8th Annual Juice Jam concert on Sunday, Sept. 11. A special opening artist for the concert will be announced at a later date.

This year’s Juice Jam will be a benefit concert commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and will also include the annual student involvement fair and community service opportunities for attending students.

The concert will be held on South Campus’ Skytop Field with doors opening at 3:30 p.m. and music starting at 4 p.m.

Juice Jam is co-sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, which will host the Student Involvement Fair throughout the event. Representatives from more than 100 on-campus organizations will provide information to students on how to get involved in campus activities.

Juice Jam, traditionally held each Sunday after Labor Day, falls this year on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. To commemorate the day, University Union is partnering with Hendricks Chapel as well as student leaders and administrators across campus to launch SU’s chapter of the Better Together for 9/11 initiative.

Created by the Interfaith Youth Core national organization, Better Together for 9/11 is a response to President Barack Obama’s Interfaith and Community Service Challenge, a program designed to strengthen interfaith and multicultural bonds in the United States. The initiative calls for students on campuses around the country from all faiths and backgrounds to engage in dialogue and take action to improve their communities.

University Union will be donating a portion of the proceeds from Juice Jam to a local charity in support of the initiative. Concert-goers will be encouraged to stop by the tables of interfaith and service organizations at the involvement fair to take part in activities such as making care packages and packing bag lunches.

Along with the service opportunities and the student involvement fair, the entertainment plays a central role in Juice Jam.

At only 21, Avicii is one of the hottest DJs in the house music scene. Since the 2008 release of his first track, “Manman,” Avicii has garnered praise and support from world-class DJs such as Tiësto, David Guetta and Laidback Luke. His two current singles, “Fade Into Darkness” and “Levels,” are two of the biggest songs in the house-electronic genre today.

Named one of the “Hottest MCs in the Game” by MTV, five-time Grammy-nominated rapper B.o.B has certainly lived up to this status. His debut single, “Nothin’ On You,” went straight to No. 1 on both the U.S. and U.K. charts while his second single,”Airplanes,” was No. 1 and No. 2 on the U.S. and U.K. charts, respectively. B.o.B’s third single, “Magic,” was the rapper’s third consecutive No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

Tickets for Juice Jam will go on sale Thursday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m. and can be purchased online at students.syr.edu/boxoffice or at the Schine Student Center box office, (315)-443-4517. Ticket sales are open to all SU and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry students and faculty/staff for $10. Tickets can also be purchased by students from surrounding colleges and universities for $20. A valid college I.D. will be required to purchase tickets to the event as well as to gain entry to the venue. Backpacks will not be allowed into the venue, and professional photography is prohibited.

Transportation to and from Skytop Field will be provided by a free shuttle bus service. Stops include College Place, Stadium Place and Skytop Field.
