Syracuse University is mentioned in an NPR “Deceptive Cadence” classical blog entry on efforts to bring a symphony back to the Central New York area. Also, Patrick Jones, director of the Setnor School of Music in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), is quoted in the Palm Beach Daily News (Fla.) about new business models for orchestras and the future of the Palm Beach Symphony.

A New York Times article quotes SU’s Jessica Wilkerson, a junior in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science (LCS), about the end of the Congressional Page Program.

YNN reported on the culmination of the Syracuse University and SubCat Music Studios collaboration for a summer recording course, held at the SubCat offices in Armory Square this summer. “Summer @SUbCat,” which was created by VPA’s Setnor School of Music and the Burton Blatt Institute, gave SU students the opportunity to teach Syracuse high school students with disabilities about the art of music production and recording engineering in a professional recording studio.

Megan Murphy, a senior advertising student at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and intern at Eric Mower and Associates, was featured in a photograph of Eric Mower’s annual “Day of Caring.” The company sent 95 of its Syracuse employees into the community to do volunteer work.

The Post-Standard reported on the winners of the SECME National Science Program Competition, a program for Syracuse City School students supported by LCS.

The Post-Standard reported on Margaret Moreno, who was awarded the first Jenni-Lyn Watson Memorial Scholarship. She attended the SU Summer Dance Intensive Program-sponsored by University College-for three weeks, and performed at Syracuse Stage.

All Africa published an op-ed by Horace Campbell, professor of African American Studies and political science in The College of Arts and Sciences, on the federal debt ceiling debate and alternatives.

Janis McDonald, professor in the College of Law and co-director of the SU College of Law Cold Case Justice Initiative (CCJI), is quoted in a Lawrence Journal World (Kan.) article on the 1977 death of Lawrence restaurant owner Robert Conlin.

The Maxwell School’s Michael Wasylenko is quoted in a 9WSYR story on lower gas prices.
