SU students invited to be reporters of Scholarship in Action

Syracuse University’s Division of Student Affairs has launched OrangeReport—student-driven news told through video or blog about Scholarship in Action. OrangeReport invites SU students to share with the campus community, and beyond, how they are spending their summer vacation as it relates to Scholarship in Action.

From summer internships and jobs, to academic studies, civic engagement, study abroad or general travel, Student Affairs wants to see and read about what students are doing and how it deepens their understanding of the University’s mission of Scholarship in Action.

“OrangeReport provides students with an opportunity to document in real time their learning process,” says Thomas Wolfe, senior vice president and dean of student affairs. “It is a project that empowers our students, through the expression of their voices, images and words, to spread the message of Scholarship in Action. Syracuse University students are historically creative, innovative and engaged citizens of the world, and I look forward to reviewing their reports over the course of the summer.”

Watch the video invitation from Jill Ouikahilo, communications director for the Division of Student Affairs.

This is a great opportunity for students to showcase their multimedia talents, including their writing, videography and storytelling skills, as well as learn about the interesting and engaging activities their peers are involved in this summer. Plus, it’s a competition with prizes!

Student Affairs is looking for the summer’s best OrangeReports. Winners will be grouped into two categories for both the video and blog platforms, for a total of four winners: “Most Viewed” and “Best Report” (voted by students).

Each of the contest winners will receive the following opportunity at the University Lecture Series of their choice (excluding the David Sedaris lecture):

• invitation to the prestigious reception and formal dinner with the guest lecturer and other distinguished members of the University;
• VIP seating at the lecture;
• personal photo with the guest lecturer; or
• access to exclusive networking opportunities

OrangeReports will be featured on the official OrangeReport website (http://orangereport.syr.edu/). Additionally, select reports will also be featured on the Current Students page of SU’s main site, as well as on the SU home page. (http://www.syr.edu/currentstudents/)

To be an OrangeReporter, students must first read and adhere to the OrangeReport guidelines, which can be found at http://www.orangereport.syr.edu by clicking on the “Help” tab in the upper right-hand corner. Students will then need to sign up to receive their log-in information. Directions on how to submit a video or blog post are found on the Help page.

Students are able to submit multiple reports, and each report must adhere to the OrangeReport guidelines in order for the report to be published.

Submissions will be accepted until Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 5 p.m. Voting will remain open until Friday, Aug. 26, at 5 p.m. Winners will be announced on Monday, Aug. 29.
