Next Th3 takes place on June 16

A consortium of 21 Syracuse arts venues will once again coordinate free, monthly visual arts events from 5-8 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month, June 16. They include:

ArtRage—The Norton Putter Gallery
505 Hawley Ave.

  • At 6 p.m., Ellen M. Blalock, photographer, videographer and quilt artist, will give an artist talk exploring her art and motivation. This talk comes just two days before the closing of her current exhibition at ArtRage, “CNY Pride Families.”

Community Folk Art Center
805 E. Genesee St.

  • Community Folk Art Center will be presenting the 2010 documentary “Waiting for ‘Superman'” at 6:30 p.m. “Waiting for ‘Superman'” examines the American public education system, highlighting several students’ stories as they seek lottery acceptance into charter schools. From director Davis Guggenheim and producer Lesley Chilcott, the film won the Audience Award for best documentary at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and the Best Documentary Feature award at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.
  • After the screening, Asomgyee Pamoja, Say Yes to Education site director at Delaware Elementary, will lead a discussion on the key issues and themes of the documentary.

Everson Museum of Art

  • Exhibitions on view: “Ah Leon: Memories of Elementary School” and “Reynolds Unwrapped: The Cartoon Art of Dan Reynolds”

Point of Contact Gallery
914 E. Genesee St.

  • Point of Contact presents: “Your Words Today/Tus palabras de hoy,” mural installation by EL PUNTO, a new contemporary arts workshop for Hispanic youths offered by Point of Contact in collaboration with the Spanish Action League and La Casita Cultural Center.

Red House Arts Center
201 South West St.

  • The Joan Lukas Rothenberg Gallery in the Red House Arts Center will host “Happy Accidents,” an exhibition of paintings from local artists Sonya Parrish and Erin Davies.
  • An opening reception will be held from 5-8 p.m.  At 7 p.m., Davies and Parrish will give a brief artist talk where they discuss their collaborative process. A screening of “Living Proof,” a new film presented by Fagbug Films and codirected by Davies and Kalima Young, will follow the artists’ talk. Both the reception and the screening are free and open to the public.

SparkyTown Restaurant
324 Burnet Ave.

  • Sparky Town will present “Remembrance of a Summer Garden,” the Fine Art Photography of Harry R. Freeman-Jones.

SUNY Oswego Metro Center
The Atrium, Two Clinton Square

  • Gallery A features a collection of photography by Vincent Doody portraying serene country landscapes and city scenes at twilight, and reflecting the desolate life of Oswego’s lighthouse in winter.
  • Gallery B introduces the work of Aaron Z. Lee, displaying a selection of comic illustrations from his witty, surreal and satirical series on Wesley the robot.

Szozda Gallery
501 W. Fayette St.

  • Deep, luscious colors abound in Szozda Gallery’s show, “Immersed in Color,” which is mounted through July 17. Featured is the color-strong layering works by three women: Lydia Benscher’s encaustics, Joyce Day Homan’s watercolors and Carmel Nicoletti’s kiln formed glass.
  • In addition to the exhibit, three women who also have studios in Delavan Center will feature their handmade fashions and bags. Helen Carter, of Secret Lentil Clothing, creates “artist-made clothing;” Beth Eischen of Lilipad Creations is including her bags, clutches and dresses; and Barbara Conte-Gaugel will show her funky “Barbara Bags.”

Westcott Community Art Gallery
826 Euclid Ave.

  • Artist Patricia Seitz: “When East Meets West,” a collection of landscapes and seascapes from the artist’s two homes in California and Central New York
