The June/July 2011 issue of VFW Magazine features an article, “Succeeding Through Entrepreneurship Boot Camps,” on the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV), founded in 2007 at the Whitman School of Management. Mike Haynie, Barnes Fellow and assistant professor of entrepreneurship in Whitman and founder/national executive director of EBV, Ray Toenniessen, EBV managing director, and EBV graduates Brian Igelsias (2008) and Jesse Canella (2010) are quoted. Also, the Fox Business Network show, America’s Nightly Scoreboard (watch clip) featured Haynie and EBV graduate Justin Bajema, a former Marine who started a real estate business in Michigan, on the show’s Salute to the Military segment on Memorial Day.

The May 27th edition of Central Issues on WCNY-TV explored what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur in Central New York and featured the winners of the South Side Innovation Center (SSIC)’s 2011 Chase Business Plan Challenge. The SSIC is a project of the Whitman School of Management. SSIC facilities coordinator Margaret Butler and 2011 Chase Business Plan Challenge winners Joan Ford, first place for Hummingbird Highway LLC, and Darien Coker, second place for Coker Corp., appeared on the program.

The Eagle reported on the Syracuse Stage ArtsEmerging program called “Perceptions,” which partnered with Syracuse City schools and presented theater works by SCSD students from Nottingham and Fowler high schools in the Storch Theatre.

FACULTY QUOTES

Miriam Elman, associate professor of political science in the Maxwell School, authored a Sunday Post-Standard op-ed on President Obama’s recent speech about Middle East policy.

Dinesh Gauri, assistant professor of marketing in the Whitman School, is quoted in a WAER report on low-cost gas, convenience stores and supermarkets.
