The Whitman School of Management Case Competition is noted in a Buffalo News story about honors for University of Buffalo MBA students in the competition.

YNN News and the Post-Standard (video report) covered Friday’s Mayfest student celebration in Walnut Park. The popular SU/SUNY-ESF students-only tradition is co-produced by the SU Student Association and University Union in partnership with SU and the City of Syracuse.

SU alumnus Rami Khouri ’70, G’98, Director of the Issam Fares Institute of Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut and editor-at-large of the Beirut-based Daily Star newspaper, was interviewed on NPR‘s Morning Edition about reaction to Osama bin Laden’s death and is quoted in Wall Street Journal and Reuters articles on Al Qaeda following bin Laden’s death. Khouri is also quoted in The National (Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.) story on the role of the Gulf Cooperation Council in the Yemen conflict and in a Washington Post article about Syrian unrest.

Jean Jonassaint, associate professor of languages, literatures and linguistics at The College of Arts and Sciences, is quoted in a New York Times article about the father of Haitian letters, Franketienne.

Michael Barkun, professor emeritus at the Maxwell School, is quoted on conspiracy theories in a Bloomberg Businessweek article about rumors and fringe theories, including those such as the issue of President Obama’s birth certificate.

Eric Kingson, professor of social work in the College of Human Ecology’s School of Social Work, was interviewed Friday on Social Security for the Leslie Marshall show, a nationally syndicated talk radio show originating in Los Angeles.

SU senior magazine journalism major Caitlin Dewey has won the New York Times Fashion & Style section Modern Love: College Essay Contest.

A letter by David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, on the San Francisco Chronicle yielding to anonymous complaints from the White House, was published in the Poynter Romenesko column and cited in an East Bay Express story on the topic. Also, Johnston is quoted in a Huffington Post article on decreased funding for IRS policing of tax evasion.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted about filming Batman in Pittsburgh for a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article on the history and future of Allegheny County business and government; and on WJBC (Illinois) about the royal wedding.

Roosevelt “Rick” Wright Jr., associate professor of television, radio and film in the Newhouse School, is quoted in an Erie Times-News story on Erie’s market strength in the broadcast-radio industry.

A guest column by David Rubin, professor and dean emeritus at the Newhouse School, about classical music in Central New York following the bankruptcy of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, appeared in Saturday’s Post-Standard.

Khristopher Dodson, program manager at SyracuseCoE, authored a Sunday Post-Standard op-ed on green infrastructure and efforts to save the rain. The Environmental Finance Center at SU is also mentioned.

In a Post-Standard story on Civil Rights-era Freedom Riders and the WCNY taping of recollections for its “Voices from the Back of the Bus” show, A. Dale Tussing, economics professor emeritus in the Maxwell School, is quoted.
