SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

An address by Chancellor Nancy Cantor as part of an upcoming University of Michigan symposium entitled “The Role of Art-Making and the Arts in a Research University” was reported on by R&D magazine.

YNN reported on the student-led Project Paper Crane fundraising initiative for Japan earthquake relief that is displaying orange paper cranes between the Schine Student Center and Newhouse 1. Geraldine de Berly, associate dean at University College and director of SU’s English Language Institute, is quoted.

The Post-Standard reported briefly that Mary Ann Shaw will receive an honorary degree from Upstate Medical University. Instrumental formerly in the founding of Literacy Corps and launch of the Center for Public and Community Service at SU, Shaw led the Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital fundraising campaign.

FACULTY QUOTES

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in CBS News report commenting on the worldwide media attention focused on the British royal family wedding, which is expected to draw a TV audience of two billion.

Harriet Brown, assistant professor of magazine journalism in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in a New York Times article on recovery from anorexia.

Len Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School of Syracuse University, is quoted in a Washington Post article about a federal budget proposal put forward by the House Progressive Caucus.

David M. Crane L’80, professor of practice in the College of Law, authored an op-ed in Jurist on accountability from heads of state, with advances in technology making alleged atrocities available to the international community in near real-time.

Rick Burton, David B. Falk Professor of Sport Management in the College of Human Ecology, co-authored a column in the SportsBusiness Journal (subscription required) on preparing young athletes for newly-affluent lifestyles once drafted.

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, authored a Tax.com commentary about the federal budget plan proposed by House Budget Committee Chair Paul Ryan.

Megan Oakleaf is quoted in a Library Journal article about the Association of College and Research Libraries 2011 conference and the 2010 ACRL report on the value of academic libraries, authored by Oakleaf.

Amardo Rodriguez, professor of communication and rhetorical studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, had the opinion piece “Solving the Housing Crisis” published recently in the “Viewpoints” section of the Central New York Business Journal.
