SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The Dumfries & Galloway Standard (U.K.) reported on the 22nd pair of Lockerbie Academy students to become Lockerbie Scholars at Syracuse University.

A Washington Post column on performance reviews for federal workers cites a 2009 speech by Maxwell School alumnus John Berry.

The Post-Standard featured the efforts of School of Architecture Assistant Professor Yutaka Sho, who is from Tokyo, to raise awareness about the disaster in Japan and help Americans donate to relief campaigns.

The Syracuse New Times highlighted the role of SU’s Students in a Free Enterprise (SIFE) chapter in the local Green Core Company program.

9WSYR interviewed via Skype SU student Hiromicho Ito, who describes the experience of being back home in Japan on the University break.

The Post-Standard featured the “The Quadrangular Cloud” at Syracuse University’s Warehouse Gallery. The installation is the brainchild of Swiss artists Sarah Kueng and Lovis Caputo.

YNN reported on the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Operation: Start Up and Grow business conference for the military community held Tuesday in Syracuse. Mike Haynie, assistant professor of entrepreneurship and founder of the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) in the Whitman School of Management, delivered the keynote address; Donna Adamo, news manager in the SU Office of News Services emceed the event; and sponsors included EBV and the Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (WISE) Center.

FACULTY QUOTES

Soonhee Kim, associate professor of public administration in the Maxwell School, recently authored the op-ed piece, “Seoul Leads Online Citizen-Participation,” which appeared in the Korea Times. Kim pointed out that government effort and commitment to provide more opportunities for citizen participation and input on many complex governance issues is an important strategy for improving transparency and public trust in government.

Red Orbit quoted Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, about Netflix’s intent to air some TV programs exclusively.
