‘How Did You Become an Assistant Dean?’ panel on March 1

On Tuesday, March 1, Career Services and the Graduate School will host a panel discussion, “How Did You Become an Assistant Dean?” in Room 107 of the Hall of Languages from 2-3:30 p.m. The panel discussion will feature eight assistant deans
from SU sharing their own career paths, as well as tips for aspiring academic administrators.

The eight panelists include:
Stephen Block, assistant dean of administration at the School of Information Studies
Susan Corieri, assistant dean for enrollment management and special academic program initiatives at the School of Information Studies
Ariel Duchene, assistant dean of external relations at the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science
Elizabeth Hahn, assistant dean of finance and administration at the Whitman School of Management
Katryn Hansen, assistant dean of finance and administration at the School of Architecture
Kathleen Joyce, assistant dean for student tecruitment at the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science
Amie Redmond, assistant dean of academic and student services at the School of Education
Martha Sutter, assistant dean of student affairs at the College of Visual and Performing Arts

This panel will be open to the SU community. Students with an interest in academic careers are particularly encouraged to attend. The session will include time for attendees to ask questions of the panelists. Please visit http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/K8CFR87 to register for this event.

“How Did You Become an Assistant Dean?” is part of a series of career programs targeted at graduate students seeking careers in academia. Previous programs from this semester include: Strategies for Succeeding in Your Ph.D. Program, Open Access Scholarship Panel, Immigration Issues for Future Academics, and From University Life to a
Federal Life.

Upcoming programs include:
Strategies for Succeeding in Your PhD program – advice from a panel of advanced doctoral students in the humanities, social sciences and education. Tuesday, March 8, 2:30-4 p.m, Room 107 of the Hall of Languages.
Interviewing Tips for Masters Students – presented by Rosanne Ecker, Associate Director, Career Services. Tuesday, March 22, 2:30-4:00 p.m., Room 107 of the Hall of Languages.
Discover Your Interpersonal Style: Learn Your Colors – presented by Neal Powless, Career Consultant, Career Services. Thursday, March 24, 2-3:30 p.m., Room 500 of the Hall of Languages.
Interfolio Credentials Services for PhD and Masters Students –
presented by Pam Latham, client services manager, Career Services. Friday, April 1, noon-1 p.m., Room 107 of the Hall of Languages.
