Honorary Degree Committee seeks nominations for 2012-15 honorary degree recipients

The Syracuse University Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees is currently seeking nominations from faculty, staff, alumni and students for candidates to receive honorary degrees at the 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 Commencement ceremonies.

Criteria for recommendations for an honorary degree include, but are not limited to, the following considerations: outstanding achievement in an academic field, the arts, business, etc.; innovative and creative achievements; humanitarian deeds and the degree to which the candidate’s activities have touched various lives; the extent to which candidate’s achievement represents sustained efforts over the course of his/her career; and the extent to which candidate represents an outstanding model for SU’s graduates.

Nomination forms are available online at http://universitysenate.syr.edu/honorary/honorary.html. Completed nomination forms should be accompanied by supporting materials explaining the basis for nominating the individual and attesting to the eminence of the candidate; a copy of the nominee’s vitae or resume or a list of professional history and contributions. Two letters of support should also be included. Each nomination should be limited to eight pages, excluding resume or vitae.

All nominations should be sent to Arthur D. Jensen, chair of the Honorary Degree Committee, in care of the College of Visual and Performing Arts, 205 Crouse College. Nominations for the 2012-15 Commencements should be received no later than Monday, Feb. 28.
