Thirty-one individuals were recognized by the Graduate School at Syracuse University for their outstanding work as teaching assistants at this year’s recent awards ceremony.
This is the 35th year the awards program has been conducted. The awards are presented by the Graduate School to recognize graduate students throughout the University whose work as teaching assistants has made distinguished contributions to the educational experience. The honors are presented for excellence in all the dimensions where teaching assistants serve, such as their work as classroom teachers, laboratory or studio instructors, recitation or discussion section leaders or in roles assisting faculty members who teach high-enrollment courses.
Those honored this year and their departments are: John Abercrombie, religion; Faris T. Amer, biomedical and chemical engineering; André Anselmo, political science; Dylan Caskie, English; Jersey Cosantino, cultural foundations of education; Katie Elizabeth Ducett, teaching and leadership; Sue-Jin Green, English; Tyler Hain, physics; Gwen E. Hartshaw, physics; Alexandria Jaurique, psychology; and Seth Knievel, communication and rhetorical studies.
Also honored are Alona Kulesha, chemistry; Athena Nicole Last, sociology; Nicholas A. LoRusso, civil and environmental engineering; Brooklyn A. Montgomery, political science; Lourdes Maria José Morales, languages, literatures and linguistics; Nicholas Ng, mathematics; Devon Pacheco, communication sciences and disorders; Emily Pifer, writing studies, rhetoric and composition; Waleed Ashraf Raja, mathematics; and Christopher Rick, public administration and international affairs.
In addition, the Graduate School recognized: Ashley Rohacek, psychology; Gabriel Ari Roth, history; Subhasree Sengupta, information science and technology; Caitlin S. Smith, human development and family science; Devin Stein, entrepreneurship and emerging enterprises; Emma Timbers, writing studies, rhetoric and composition; Tim Tribone, mathematics; Claudine-Lonjé A. Williams, higher education; Jeongwon Yang, mass communications; and Utku Zobarlar, languages, literature and linguistics.
Honorees are selected based on letters of nomination and additional recommendations from faculty members, endorsements of department chairs, positive academic standing and letters of support from students in their courses.
