China and the United States Will Work Together To Tackle Climate Change
Dimitar Gueorguiev, assistant professor for political science in the Maxwell School, authored an opinion piece for the Washington Post “The U.S. and China agreed to work together on climate action. What would push this cooperation forward?” and was quoted in a story for the South China Morning Post.
In Gueorguiev’s opinion piece for the Washington Post, he discussed both China and the United States’ efforts to combat climate change and lower their emissions. He discussed his survey findings, stating, ‘While the Chinese public endorses climate action, my own surveys from the China Policy Barometer suggest that citizens are less supportive when they are told about international pressure — or informed that the United States is taking stronger climate protection efforts. These findings suggest international pressure, if done in public, could discourage rather than compel Chinese leaders into action.’
