Syracuse University Career Services will host the annual Graduate and Professional School Day on Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 5-7 p.m. in the Panasci Lounge, upstairs in the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center. Graduate and Professional School Day is an opportunity for undergraduate students of all majors to connect with representatives from an array of graduate school programs across the country and explore possibilities for further study.
This year, more than 90 programs from across the United States will attend the event. These include: Columbia University’s School of Journalism, Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration and John Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health. Graduate and Professional School Day is a chance for students to informally sample the offerings of various graduate programs by speaking with representatives about things like admissions criteria, financial aid, and programs and curricula. Students need not dress formally or bring resumes.
“With many students contemplating graduate school as their next step after college, we are excited to offer an event featuring such a diverse range of graduate programs,” says Mike Cahill, director of Career Services. “This is a great opportunity for students who want to explore possibilities of what graduate study can do for them.”
“The goal of this event is for students to learn about graduate programs so they are better equipped to make decisions when the time comes to make them,” says Pamela Latham, client services manager in Career Services. Students, especially sophomores and juniors, are encouraged to participate in Graduate and Professional School Day, even if they are still in the exploratory stage. The number of schools attending makes it possible for students to compare different programs and assess where their interests lie.
Graduate and Professional School Day is part of Syracuse University Career Week 2009, which includes the Career Fair at the Carrier Dome and several other career-related events.
