Beginning Monday, Dec. 20, at 8 a.m. ET, Blackboard will be secured with Microsoft multi-factor authentication (MFA) to coincide with the end of the Fall 2021 term and the beginning of Winterlude classes. Instructors should note that MFA will be enabled before final grades are due. The date provides adequate time for users to become familiar with it before the beginning of the Spring 2022 term.
The function of MFA in Blackboard is similar to its behavior in other campus systems where it is enabled. Users will have the fastest and easiest access to Blackboard with MFA if they are able to configure the Microsoft Authenticator App for Android, iOS or Windows Phone. MFA is an excellent method for enhancing user account security. With MFA enabled, a prospective thief would need access to both your password and a phone you’ve configured to steal your information. Enabling MFA in Blackboard will align it with other critical campus systems that contain sensitive data, such as email and MySlice.
