Syracuse University career fair features national employers, internship and employment opportunities for students

Syracuse University Career Services will host its annual Career Fair at the Carrier Dome on Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 1:30–6 p.m. Representatives from more than 90 organizations will attend the fair offering students the chance to learn about internship and full-time job opportunities. The event is sponsored by Macy’s, Inc., JPMorgan Chase & Co., KPMG, Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers and H.H. Brown.

Students are encouraged to take advantage of the fair as an opportunity to network with a wide range of employers. “In this highly competitive job market, networking is essential,” says Jennifer Walters, associate director of Career Services.

Each year, the event features organizations from a spectrum of industries. However, this year’s crop of employers is particularly diverse. Hallmark Cards will attend for the first time, offering internships in writing, marketing, business administration, engineering and more. The FBI will also be on hand to recruit students with foreign language skills to work in their language services and linguistics departments.

Other organizations participating include CIGNA, Deloitte, Teach For America, The Wall Street Journal, Microsoft, General Electric, Lockheed Martin, the Peace Corps and the Walt Disney Co. The full list of employers is available on the Career Services website http://careerservices.syr.edu.

“Students should note the variety of positions being offered,” says Walters. “Companies are multifaceted organizations. They need employees of various skill sets in various departments. One never knows where opportunities may lie.”

Students of all years and majors are encouraged to attend. Preparation for the event is key. On Monday, Sept. 21, at 5 p.m., Macy’s, Inc., will offer a workshop called “How to Succeed at a Career Fair” in room 228B of the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center. All students are welcome.
