Dear Students:
With Halloween festivities approaching, I want to remind you of the expectation to uphold our community standards and promote a healthy, safe and welcoming environment for all campus community members and neighbors. We want you to engage and socialize safely, responsibly and respectfully. With that in mind, there are four things I ask you to remember if you choose to participate in activities this Halloween weekend:
1. Maintain Good Health Practices: While we see positive data and trends on the COVID dashboard, it is imperative we remain vigilant to protect the members of our community. If you are gathering with others this weekend, please continue to:
2. Be Considerate and Respectful: As you make plans for the weekend, I encourage you to think about how others may perceive or be impacted by your costume choice or the theme of a party.
3. Be a Good Neighbor: There are children and families living in the off-campus neighborhood who are taking part in Halloween fun, too. Be mindful of noise ordinances, stay on your property and dispose of trash and recycling properly.
4. Look Out for One Another: If you choose to drink this weekend, make sure you and your friends have a plan to go out and return home safely together. If someone is exhibiting signs of alcohol poisoning—know your C.U.P.S.: Cold skin, Unresponsiveness, Puking and Slow breathing—or needs medical assistance, call for help right away. You can call 911 or the Department of Public Safety (315.443.2224) for help in an emergency.
Please continue to keep the safety and well-being of yourself and all those around you at the forefront this weekend.
