NCAA Athletes Becoming Independent Business Entities

Rick Burton, David B. Falk Endowed Professor of Sport Management in Falk College, wrote an opinion piece for Sportico entitled College “COLLEGE NIL DASH FOR CASH RAISES A QUESTION: ARE THE KIDS ALRIGHT?”

Burton discusses the recent NCAA decision to make college athletes independent business entities. He discusses the controversy of this decision, saying, “does the small army of potential entrepreneurs truly understand the concept of assigning intellectual property rights and entering into binding agreements? Can they work out the difference between conditions made on a promise, and a promise?”
