Important Public Health Information: Eligibility Guidance for Pfizer Booster Dosage

Dear Colleagues:

Earlier this week, Vice Chancellor J. Michael Haynie shared a message announcing that many in our community are now eligible to receive the booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine. I am writing today to call your attention to that message and to urge you to seek out a booster if you are eligible.

The following populations are now eligible to receive the booster shot six months after receiving their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine based on the latest public health guidance:

• People aged 65 years and older and residents of long-term care settings should receive a booster shot.
• People aged 50-64 years with underlying medical conditions should receive a booster shot.
• People aged 18-49 years with underlying medical conditions may receive a booster shot based on their individual benefits and risks.
• People aged 18-64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of their occupational or institutional setting may receive a booster shot based on their individual benefits and risks. Please note that this category includes education staff (professors/instructors/teachers, support staff, daycare workers).

We will continue to monitor opportunities for our community members to receive the booster shot and share details about additional avenues as they become available.
