The Dangers For Female Reporters In Afghanistan
Roy Gutterman, associate professor of magazine, news and digital journalism in the Newhouse School and director of the Tully Center for Free Speech, was quoted in The Hill story “CNN’s Clarissa Ward has breakthrough media moment in Afghanistan,” authored an op-ed for Syracuse.com, and was mentioned in and editorial for the Bangor Daily News.
CNN reporter, Clarissa Ward, is the center of this article which discusses the dangers of reporting in Afghanistan right now, especially for women. Gutterman comments on this saying, “Reporting from that part of the world is dangerous for any reporter. When you bring in the way women are treated [by the Taliban] it’s an additional hazard and an additional obstacle. These women reporters are really courageous to tell stories about people who don’t want them there.”
