Important Commencement 2020 Update

Dear Class of 2020:

In early 2020, we promised you that when safe to do so, we would welcome you back to campus to celebrate your achievements at Syracuse University. The Class of 2020 missed out on the traditional pomp and circumstance because of the pandemic. But we never stopped thinking of ways to celebrate you. On Sept. 19, we will deliver on that promise to all of you who have ’20 after your name.

Our 2020 Commencement weekend will combine ceremonial honors with the excitement of a reunion. The celebration begins on Friday evening, Sept. 17, with a Welcome Home Reception. Activities will continue through the weekend with school- and college-specific activities and special events before and after Syracuse Football takes on the University of Albany. And on Sunday, Sept. 19, you and your loved ones will celebrate a traditional Commencement, a time-honored tradition at Syracuse University. As promised and as per tradition, it will be held in the stadium.

We are working to finalize the details. However, we want to provide this update to give you and your loved ones time to plan for your return to campus. We are aware that flight arrangements and accommodations can be challenging, so we encourage you to plan early. As former students, you know that fall is a spectacular time to experience Central New York. We look forward to seeing those of you who have moved away revel in the beauty and color—especially Orange—of Syracuse upon your return. We look forward to celebrating and honoring you, the Class of 2020.
