Fulbright Program Information Sessions to Be Held May 12 and 13

The Office of Research is sponsoring two Fulbright Program information sessions for faculty, staff and Ph.D. students close to graduation on Wednesday, May 12. A separate information session  for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, coordinated by the Center for Fellowship and Scholarship Advising, is being held on Thursday, May 13. This session is open to undergraduates, recent graduates and current graduate students.

The Fulbright Program is the most widely recognized and prestigious international exchange program in the world, supported for more than 50 years by an annual appropriation from the U.S. Congress and the people of partner nations. The program actively seeks out individuals of achievement and potential who represent the full diversity of their respective societies and selects nominees through open, merit-based competitions.

The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. It awards approximately 8,000 grants annually. Roughly 1,600 U.S. students, 4,000 foreign students, 1,200 U.S. scholars, and 900 visiting scholars receive awards, in addition to several hundred teachers and professionals. More than 400,000 “Fulbrighters” have participated in the program since its inception in 1946. Currently, the Fulbright Program operates in over 160 countries worldwide.

The Office of Research will host Dr. Julie Taylor, Director of Academic Relations for Fulbright at the Institute of International Education to discuss the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program, including Fulbright postdoctoral support opportunities for Ph.D. students close to graduation. Dr. Taylor will present information on the nearly 900 opportunities Fulbright offers for research and teaching abroad. There are awards for scholars at all career levels and every discipline.

Fulbright Specialist Program
Open to faculty and professional staff

The Office of Research invites Syracuse University faculty and professional staff to learn more about the Fulbright Specialist Program from guest speaker Amirah Nelson, Senior Outreach Officer for the Fulbright Specialist Program at World Learning, a program of the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The Fulbright Specialist Program provides U.S. citizens who are established professionals or academics and possess expertise in qualifying disciplines with the opportunity to engage in short-term (2-6 week) project-based exchanges at host institutions around the globe.
