“Dominion sues Fox News for $1.6 billion.”
Roy Gutterman, associate professor of magazine, news and digital journalism and director of the Tully Center for Free Speech the Newhouse School, was quoted in the Washington Post story “Fox News sued by Dominion in $1.6 billion defamation case that could set new guardrails for broadcasters.” Gutterman, an expert on communications law, discusses Fox New’s allegations against the voting-systems company during the 2020 election. Gutterman says that the lawsuits could cause broadcasters “to be more cautious or ask tougher questions of its sources or even make disclaimers on air.” “Like the other lawsuits, what constitutes truth and lies in a heated political discussion is at the heart of the matter,” Gutterman says.
